Supporting a Sustainable Supply Chain
Maola farms don’t just walk the sustainability walk, they lead the way. Our cooperative of dairy farmers was the first in the country to work with the entire dairy supply chain to promote socially responsible, economically viable, and environmentally sound practices.
Together our dairy farmers have earned more than $100 million from our partners for initiatives on our family farms.
These projects include building new animal housing, addressing erosion-prone areas, and planting thousands of trees to protect local waterways.

The herd is the heart of every Maola dairy farm. Our farmers are committed to animal care and herd health. All Maola farms meet and aim to exceed the National Dairy FARM (Farmers Assuring Responsible Management) Program standards of animal care.
CARING FOR OUR COWS
Cow Well-being Matters.
To provide the highest quality of life and well-being for our animals, we:
- Take good stockmanship to heart, using low-stress techniques that help us communicate with our animals in ways they understand.
- Require all employees with animal care responsibilities to participate in ongoing, job-specific training and continuing education.
- Provide our cows with deep bedding, comfy shelters, a premium diet, and a loving touch.
- Have herd experts observe their health and well-being daily.
- Ensure every Maola farm has a dedicated veterinarian who monitors their cows’ medical care.

Innovation & collaboration
Collaborating on a Carbon Neutral Future
In 2020, we joined with cooperatives from across the country to begin working towards greenhouse gas neutrality by 2050.
Through the Innovation Center for U.S. Dairy, cooperatives will work with industry partners, customers and consumers to help reach these new industry-wide 2050 environmental goals:
- Achieve greenhouse gas neutrality
- Optimize water use while maximizing recycling
- Improve water quality by optimizing utilization of manure and nutrients
Maola also supports the Net Zero Initiative, an industry-wide effort to reduce on-farm environmental impacts and will work with industry partners to bring technology, resources, and expert knowledge to our membership.
